Helping Hand Scheme

The RCN Foundation is pleased to launch a new scheme that will make the applications process more accessible to potential applicants.

The RCN Foundation seeks qualified healthcare practitioners to take part in Helping Hand, a new peer-to-peer application support scheme.

Would you be interested in sharing your knowledge, skills and experience to assist nurses, midwives, nursing associates or health care support workers who are looking to progress in their careers, whilst also forming networks and gaining valuable experience?

We are currently looking for individuals across all fields of nursing and at all levels who will be able to assist individuals applying for a grant.

You would support individuals through the application process and should they be successful through to the final report at the end of their studies.

To apply please send your CV to grants@rcnfoundation.org.uk along with a cover email that explains why you want to be involved in the Helping Hand Scheme.

What would you need to do?

You would need to commit to supporting an individual at the point of applying for an RCN Foundation grant, providing a helping hand to complete a comprehensive education grant application.

If the application were to be successful, you would also provide a helping hand for the duration of the grant period and support them in completing their final report to the Foundation.

It is important to emphasise that this is not a regulatory role and would not replace their need for a practice supervisor and practice assessor. This role is to support applicants with the RCN Foundation’s grant processes rather than acting as a mentor during their studies.

What do we need to know?

In your cover email please include:

  • Number of years working as a nurse/midwife

  • Brief description of your current role

  • Why you want to participate in the scheme

Why become a Helping Hand?

Involvement in the scheme will offer you the chance to network and build a community, it will give you the opportunity to share your skills and experience with nurses, midwives, nursing associates and health care support workers and support them to progress in their careers.

Participation in the scheme could also contribute towards your NMC revalidation activity. Your role could also be added to your CV and applied to your email signature.

If you have any questions about the scheme, please contact grants@rcnfoundation.org.uk.
