Lord Victor Adebowale CBE appointed as Chair of the COVID-19 Healthcare Support Appeal
The COVID-19 Healthcare Support Appeal (CHSA) has announced the appointment of Lord Adebowale as its new Chair. CHSA was recently established to support all healthcare staff in the UK who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a subsidiary of the RCN Foundation.
Following a donation of £5 million from the global video sharing company TikTok, the charity will fund the provision of financial and psychological support to frontline healthcare workers during and after the COVID-19 crisis.
Lord Adebowale has a strong background supporting healthcare initiatives, including mental health and social care. He is currently the Chair of NHS Confederation and served for 6 years as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of NHS England. During this time, he chaired a number of commissions reporting on issues including mental health, policing and employment. He has recently stepped down as the CEO of Turning Point, a social enterprise providing health and social care interventions to approximately 100,000 people annually. Victor was awarded a CBE for services to the unemployed and homeless people and became a crossbench peer in 2001.
Lord Adebowale said of his appointment: “I am delighted to have been appointed as the Chair of the new charity, the COVID-19 Healthcare Support Appeal. The charity will play an important role in supporting all healthcare staff across the country during these exceptional times”.
